1887–1942
Wah-Zha-Zhe. First Native American Major General in U.S. Army history; first U.S. Army general officer killed in combat in the Second World War. Lost in the closing hours of the Battle of Midway leading the long-range bombing sortie against Wake Island He had himself planned. The Chairman Emeritus seat is held permanently in His honour and is never refilled. See osage.memorial.
